In the midst of tears and sobs from administrators and educators, Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District Superintendent Pat Adams announced his resignation at the regular board meeting held Sept. 20. Mr. Adams said his resignation was effective at the end of December. “I feel and hope that by this action, the board will move forward for progress in the future, because I am out of the way, ” Mr. Adams said. “I once said when I arrived here that I wanted the ‘Tiger to soar again among the Eagles with pride. ’ Well, I can leave with the belief and satisfaction that we have accomplished great goals for our district, both in academics and extracurricular activities, while doing our job with respect, integrity, and pride, and the Tiger is soaring again. ” Mr. Adams said before he came to Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD, he had a choice between Daingerfield and Jefferson, and he chose Daingerfield. “Some former board members had a positive outlook, were concerned, and wanted our schools to become better, ” he said. “They wanted the administration to run our school, and they were always positive and supportive. They cared about students. I had positions to fill for an assistant superintendent, a high school principal, and a junior high school principal. I was called many times to check on the progress of those hires. No restrictions were placed on those positions. I was to get the best people that knew about the school business. Nothing was ever said about where they lived. I truly believe we did just that, because in just two years we have accomplished so much and elevated our school to state-wide recognition. “I have memories of a great board that had no personal agendas, but cared about our students, first and foremost. Some on the present board have personal agendas, because not one word has been said about our students. It has been all about changing policy that affects our administrators and teachers, questioning our duties and above all, micro-managing. A school district cannot be effective and reach its full potential without the trust between a school board and its superintendent. ” The son of a former superintendent with a 25-year tenure at one school, Mr. Adams said he was taught rules concerning a profession in education. “Arrive to school before anyone else, to set the example, no matter how early, ” he said. “Read the Bible every morning to get the day started and listen to what God has to say for that day. Teach the importance of a work ethic with character, integrity, and pride and never stray from that path. Treat and respect all people the way you ’d want to be treated and respected. Remember that all other administrators, directors, teachers, and staff work with you, not for you. Do what is right for the school district you serve and keep the students ’ interests in mind first and foremost. Always respect the teachers as they are the ones that are actually on the front line, winning the battle. Work hard at making the school a better place and leave it a better place. Keep God first, family second, and profession third. Stand for what is right and shun what is evil. ” Mr.
