About ACHIEVA Founded out of love for their sons and daughters with mental retardation, a group of family members began a grassroots movement in the early 1950’s that changed the long history of segregation and isolation of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. While the names and faces changed over the next fifty years, ACHIEVA remained steadfast in the vision of the founding families: daring to dream of a society where all people are accepted for their unique abilities and contributions.
