Description

Nurturing a culture of possibility and wellness is the essence of our philosophy at The Redwoods. The goal of our not-for-profit organization is to provide ways for seniors to thrive as they age, both for our residents and for those in the broader San Francisco Bay area. Specifically, we respond to seniors' individual physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs to foster dignity, usefulness and opportunities to grow. Programs and activities at The Redwoods embrace the concept of whole person wellness. They are designed to maintain and improve the fitness level of an individual's physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual and purposeful life. We strive to provide a variety of unique opportunities within each of these wellness domains, and we encourage residents to intersperse their lives here with exercise classes, reading and support groups, cultural pursuits, volunteer activities, political discussions and intergenerational programs. Our hope is that every resident feels welcomed and supported in his or her exploration of life at the age of 70, 80, 90 and 100 years. Each of these ages brings new challenges and rich possibilities. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Redwoods Announces Revitalizing The Redwoods, a Plan to Modernize and Expand its Campus and Build on its History for a Sustainable Future The Revitalization Vision The Redwoods is a treasured facility that is nearly 40 years old. As Marin County braces for the silver tsunami, we are doing our part. Planning for the future will require several changes to the facility and upgrades to ensure we provide the best possible facility for our current and future residents.brings a Bounty of Benefits One of the many special features of our campus is the organic Garden. Located in a lovely spot close to the wetlands, it is a working garden that is tended by the residents themselves with the guidance of a professional gardener. The Garden is a wonderful way for residents to come together as a community and enjoy the outdoors. And for those residents who enjoyed gardening in their previous homes, it is a particular joy! Every week, residents participate in the abundant harvest of the organic flowers, fruits and vegetables. The harvest is not only used for Redwoods programs, but is shared with residents who do their own cooking or would like a fresh bouquet of flowers. In May, Fiona Dunbar joined us as our new Garden Services Coordinator. A professional landscape designer and gardener, she comes to us with over ten years’ experience as a garden manager, naturalist, educator, mentor and volunteer coordinator. She holds a Master of Arts in Landscape Design and brings special expertise in the use of edibles, native and drought-resistant species.
