Description
The Retail Coach, the premier national retail recruitment and development consulting firm, has been selected by the Canton Economic Development Corporation to assist the organization in pursuing new retail development. The retail strategy is one component of Canton’s strategic planning initiative under the leadership of Mercy Rushing, Canton EDC’s Executive Director. It coincides with long term goals of creating a better quality of life for Canton citizens and expanding the tourism base for the city. “We have conducted preliminary onsite research in Canton and in competing communities and believe there are excellent opportunities for retail expansion,” said C. Kelly Cofer, CCIM, president and chief executive officer of The Retail Coach. The Retail Coach will utilize the Retail360 Recruitment System, a program pioneered by the firm that has been successful for local governments, chambers of commerce and economic development organizations in communities throughout the United States for more than 10 years. Comprehensive and customized for each client, Retail360 includes regional market analyses, competition surveying, retail trade area determination, demographic and psychographic profiling, retail sector leakage identification, retailer matching, community marketing and retailer (and restaurant) recruitment. “We will gather and interpret data from numerous sources, including state and local demographics and retail sales data to create a Retail Gap Analysis for Canton,” said Cofer, a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) with over 25 years of economic development and retail real estate experience. The Retail Gap Analysis will illuminate which of 52 retail categories in the Canton community are exhibiting deficiencies or “leakages” to surrounding communities. The Retail Coach will then identify specific retailers that are an ideal fit for Canton’s Retail Trade Area. “Providing data is only 50 percent of each project,” said Cofer, “We specialize in translating the market knowledge we gather into uniquely-tailored retail recruitment and development strategies. Then we work with each client to implement them.” Upon completion of the project, The Retail Coach team will continue to assist the Canton Economic Development Corporation in an advisory capacity for a 12-month period. “Our goal is to provide an uncommon level of customized service to help communities move beyond the data to attain real results,” said Cofer.
