BACKGROUND 3rd Rock, LLC was founded to support construction contractors, developers, engineers, architects, and scientists to assure the quality of soil, rock and other materials used in construction as well as the constructed product. 3rd Rock ’s founders and staff have 20 years of experience in the material testing business, and have previously been involved in the establishment and management of two other materials testing laboratories. The Company enjoys a long and close working relationship with several nationally-recognized experts in the field through active American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) membership. The combinations of managing successful laboratories, actively participating in ASTM, and knowing how to successfully serve engineers and contractors provides our clients with exceptional quality service with a professional edge. ASTM standard methods and state-of-the-art equipment are used to perform each analysis by trained and experienced technicians with strict quality control/quality assurance protocols at 3rd Rock. Customized testing protocols can be developed on a project- or program- specific basis, if necessary, to meet client ’s special needs. Our significant construction materials experience can often spot potential material or specification issues early and assist resolving those issues quickly, thereby saving delays and construction costs. In the construction industry, time is money. Quick-turnaround, without sacrificing quality, is our specialty. Our laboratory will provide weekend and evening shifts to account for stringent scheduling. We can pickup samples from project sites to facilitate project schedules. We can phone or e-mail preliminary results to you in your office, at the job-site or on the road. Our unit rates are extremely competitive and reasonable even when strict turnaround is required. Our technicians are trained to operate and transport nuclear densitometers for measurement of moisture content and density in the field.
