Thomas & Associates Founded in 2000 by former federal prosecutor Robert M.

Nicknamed "Lincoln's law," the False Claims Act was created in reaction to problems with shoddy boots and poor horseshoes being provided to soldiers during the Civil War. Unfortunately, similar problems continue today with unscrupulous contracting companies providing American troops with things like faulty bulletproof vests, poorly constructed helicopters and overpriced food, and failing to live up to their obligations to veterans. The Whistleblower Law Collaborative is dedicated to taking these contractors to task by representing whistleblowers nationwide.

The Whistleblower Law Collaborative is the unique combination of practices of two pre-eminent whistleblower attorneys, both recognized nationwide for successfully working with government prosecutors and investigators in complex fraud investigations and for achieving extraordinary results for their clients. Suzanne Durrell, a former chief of the Civil Division of the Boston U.S. Attorney's Office, and Bob Thomas, a former white collar criminal Assistant U.S. Attorney, combine their skills and coordinate their practices to assist whistleblowers in navigating this complex area of the law.

Fraudulent acts within the health care industry can have serious and life-threatening consequences for the patients who are prescribed drugs or tests that do not meet their needs. Similarly, drug and medical device manufacturers who violate FDA laws can have equally dangerous effects on the people who unknowingly purchase poorly made, contaminated or inaccurate medications. The Whistleblower Law Collaborative helps whistleblowers and the government put a stop to these kinds of fraudulent activities by setting the record straight.

This False Claims Act qui tam suit filed in 2006 was resolved by St. Jude Medical Inc. of St. Paul, Minn., agreeing to pay the United States $16 million to resolve allegations raised by the whistleblower that the company used post-market studies and a registry to pay kickbacks to induce physicians to implant the company's pacemakers and defibrillators. Post-market studies are intended to assess the clinical performance of a medical device or drug after that device or drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
