Thompson & Bowie, LLP began as a three-person insurance defense firm in 1978, and today is a mid-sized law firm providing a wide range of litigation-oriented services throughout Northern New England. For almost four decades, we have helped shape the law in Maine. For example, our attorneys helped define both the nature and the burden of proof for punitive damages. We helped establish the limits on emotional distress recovery in claims against attorneys. Our attorneys also outlined the parameters of when liability may be imposed upon franchisors for the acts of their franchisees.

Since 1978, the attorneys of Thompson & Bowie, LLP have used knowledge and creativity to efficiently resolve the diverse legal challenges faced by our clients. We work closely with our clients to find effective, common-sense solutions whether it be through formal litigation or alternative dispute resolution. Our practice focuses on civil litigation throughout Maine and New Hampshire, including professional liability, municipal liability, workers’ compensation and all aspects of insurance defense.
