Description
Mr. Martin began practicing law nearly 30 years ago, focusing from the start on family law cases. Initially a litigator, he has moved away from litigated cases and has increasingly moved to serving as a mediator and collaborative counsel. As a result of his longstanding focus on ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution), he was instrumental in 1996 in developing the ADR program for family law cases that was initially run by the San Mateo County Bar Association. That program has evolved into the MAP program at the courthouse. He is also a co-founder of the local (San Mateo County) Collaborative Law practice group known as Collaborative Practice of San Mateo County (CPSMC). Mr. Martin graduated from Occidental College and Hastings College of the Law. He has been certified by the California State Bar's Board of Legal Specialization as a Specialist in family law for the past twenty years. He has continuously sat on the financial issues committee (spousal support, child support and property) of the Family Law Section of the State Bar for more than twenty years, reviewing proposed legislation on behalf of the section's Executive Committee. In 1991, he served as President of the San Mateo County Bar Association. Mr. Martin is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He has authored several articles on family law issues, published in the LA Daily Journal, the Family Law and Business Law Sections newsletters, and the San Mateo County Bar Association "Docket." He has also co-authored an article appearing in "The Collaborative Review," the journal of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
