Tony Roberts is recognized throughout the world of golf as one of its master photographers. His first published photograph appeared in Golf Digest magazine in 1971; it was of the famed Ballybunion links on the southwest coast of Ireland. Since then, he has covered more than 145 golf tournaments worldwide, including 40 major championships. He has also covered the British Open almost every year since 1975. His most famous photograph is of the famed 16th hole at Cypress Point, on the Monterey Peninsula, taken while perched on a tree limb for three hours during the 1986 AT&T Pro-Am tournament. It was used to illustrate the cover of the best-selling golf book, Golf Courses of the PGA Tour. Tony also captured Tom Watson’s winning chip-in on the 17th hole at Pebble Beach during the 1982 U.S. Open; a memorable moment in both their careers. In 1998 and again this year, 2001, the International Network of Golf honored Tony with its Photographer of the Year award.
