Description

About Us In 1986, Steve Stonecipher-Fisher opened Tryathletics’ doors at the corner of 4th and Broadway in the Flat Branch Creek area of Columbia. Steve moved Tryathletics to the present building, at 1605 Chapel Hill Rd. in 1997, to provide larger floor space, better parking an easier to reach location and quick access to the MKT Trail. "We want to give everyone the most knowledgeable service" says Steve, so he has an array of local athletes working for him. From runners to bikers and swimmers the people at Tryathletics know and use what they sell. Tryathletics is very active in sponsoring and supporting pretty much any running, walking, biking and swimming event in Columbia. Tryathletics also sponsors and is active in the Columbia Track Club. You will find friendly and experienced people to take care of all your needs at Tryathletics. *Meet the Staff Steve – The man, the legend Steve Stonecipher-Fisher has lived in Columbia for 33 years and opened Tryathletics in 1986. He has been married to his wife, Kim for 28 years and has a son, Ryan. Steve is involved in many local events and is race director for The Show Me Games Triathlon and St Patrick’s Day 5k among others. He brings years of experience to Tryathletics and his customers. Steve began running in 1971 on the Sedalia high school track and cross country team. He also ran for the University of Missouri track and cross country teams. Steve still holds the 3 mile indoor record at MU which he set in 1978. At the 1983 Boston Marathon, he place 37th in a time of 2:16:36. This feat qualified him for the 1984 Olympic Trials marathon. Steve placed 40th at the trials with a time of 2:22. This experience and his friendly attitude toward people make Tryathletics a great store to shop for your running, biking and swimming needs. Matt - Sales associate/All around nice guy A Tryathletics employee since June 2004, Matt brings a diverse athletic background and loads of experience to the staff. He is a former triathlete, a current regular on the local road racing circuit, and a Board Member with the Columbia Track Club. Matt also loves riding bikes and has ridden RAGBRAI, Iowa's famous cross-state ride, seven times as a member of the infamous Team SKA. He enjoys frequenting garage sales and absolutely cannot pass up a slip-n-slide. Matt is in his Senior year at Columbia College studying Accounting and Finance and hopes to graduate sometime in 2010. He hopes to take on marathoning and ultra-running in the coming years. Nate – Sales associate/Beard grower Nate hails from the "Ice Cream Capital of the World", LeMars, Iowa and is easy to spot at the store thanks to his exceptionally long beard. And although he won't brag about it, Nate's triathlon resume is almost as long as his facial hair. With four Ironmans and a USATF Long Course National Championship to his credit, Nate knows what it takes to succeed in the sport. Nate's love of triathlon is legendary. He is a committed bike commuter and has acquired quite a collection of two-wheel machines over the years. He has so many bikes, in fact, that he's actually lost count of how many he owns. Somewhere in the 15 to 20 bike range is his best guess.
