Tutoring Plus has two full-time employees (the executive director and the manager of volunteer services), an Academic Success Fellow, two part-time site managers, and three site managers through the Work Force partnership. In addition, Tutoring Plus relies on over 170 volunteer tutors and mentors. Meet our staff below: Ellen McLaughlin, Executive Director Ellen has been with Tutoring Plus since May 2006. She has over 25 years of experience in education and management, bringing an exceptional array of skills to her role. Ellen began her career teaching special needs and at-risk children in New York and Massachusetts public schools for 13 years. She then served as an education specialist assisting parents of special needs children across the country with school selection, residential placement, and developing relationships with schools and teachers. Ellen then spent 10 years as a project manager for software companies, where she gained experience in strategic leadership and day-to-day operational management, before returning to education and taking her current position at Tutoring Plus. Sarah Morin, Manager of Volunteer Services Sarah joined the Tutoring Plus staff early in 2008. She previously worked as an office administrator and assistant marketing director in the fields of law, architecture, and real estate before deciding to join the non-profit sector. Her well-rounded background has made her an integral part of developing the manager of volunteers position. Sarah graduated from Boston University in 2005 with a degree in political science, where she also studied public relations and business management. Originally from southern NH, Sarah has been living in the Boston area since her graduation. She is an avid cyclist and participates in several charity rides a year. Minh Nguyen, Academic Success Fellow Minh Nguyen is a Massachusetts Promise Fellow and AmeriCorps Volunteer serving with Tutoring Plus for the 2010-2011 year. Minh previously served with the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship at Boston Partners in Education as the Math Rules! Coordinator. At Boston Partners in Education, Minh managed the expansion of an in-school math mentoring program for 3rd-5th graders, into three new schools. During her year of service, she also started a blog documenting the experiences of a tutor/volunteer. At Tutoring Plus, Minh will be responsible for providing individual support to students, building relationships and communicating with teachers and community partners, designing curriculum based activities for afterschool programs, and piloting a middle school leadership group for Tutoring Plus. Minh is also a Senior Fellow through the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, providing support for other Fellows, planning and organizing with the Mass. Promise staff, and working on an alumni project for Mass. Promise. In her spare time, Minh enjoys being a math nerd and hanging out with her pet hedgehog, Kiwi. Site Managers Site managers are responsible for maintaining a structured environment at our Tutoring Centers that promotes learning and for providing encouragement and support to students and volunteers. -Jessica Frattaroli, Middle School Tutoring Program
