What is a mutual bank? The definition has to do with ownership. Simply put, a mutual bank is owned by all of its depositors rather than by stockholders. Stock banks have a primary responsibility to maximize shareholder value. Mutual banks, on the other hand, have a primary responsibility to serve their customers, employees and communities.Our earnings, instead of being paid out as quarterly dividends, add to our capital and allow us to provide financial support to our communities.
