Brother started out in 1908 as the Yasui Sewing Machine Company, growing over time and branching out in the fields of home and electric appliances. After inheriting the company from his brother, Masayoshi Yasui first put the "Brother" in the company’s name. Now, over a century later, The Brother Group has manufacturing and sales facilities in over 40 countries, and has been a household name since coming to the US in 1954. Most famous for its line of award-winning Multi-Function Centers and printers, it is also well known for its line of facsimiles and electronic labeling systems. Since introducing the world’s first high speed dot matrix printer in 1971, Brother has continued to lead the industry in providing customers with high quality machines, including Color Laser/LED printers, black and white laser printers, multi-function copiers, Inkjet and multifunction machines. They also offer electronic label devices and mobile devices such as printers, scanners, handheld labelers, and desktop barcode and label printers. These parts are factory packaged and have been tested by the manufacturer to meet all specifications. Factory Direct parts are typically distributed through the service provider warranty repair channel. Therefore, factory direct parts do not have colorful consumer product packaging and manuals.

It was in 1938, that the company Hewlett Packard was first founded by two students at Stanford University, William Hewlett and David Packard, who decided the name of their company by the toss of a coin. The highest end printer that they manufacture is the LaserJet CM6000, which costs around 6,000 dollars and is suited for large businesses that need a high-volume, reliable printing solution. There are a multitude of affordable printers at the consumer end of the scale as well.
