Ultraplas material has completed a long series of outdoor UV, weather and durability testing at Q-Lab Weathering Research Service located in Buckeye Arizona. Q-Lab is globally recognized as a premier ISO 17025 compliant test facility. Tests were conducted using their Q-Trac Natural Sunlight Concentrator in accordance with ASTM G90 (American Society for Testing and Materials). ASTM G90 is the standard for performing accelerated outdoor weathering tests of nonmetallic materials using concentrated natural sunlight as defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Q-Lab is a well-respected leader in weathering research and testing; their clients include major automotive manufacturers and large multi-national corporations. In the subsequent two-plus year test, screen-printed samples of UltraPlas material were exposed to 107,084 megajoules of total solar radiation and no less than 2876 megajoules of total ultraviolet radiation within the spectral range of 290 to 358 nanometers. The damaging effects of sunlight on nonmetallic surfaces are primarily due to the short-wave ultraviolet light in the 300 to 400 nanometer range. Test Results: The test specimens endured 2876 megajoules of harsh UV exposure along with scheduled daily water sprays to induce thermal shock and additional mechanical stress. At the end of testing visual color showed only the slightest fading scoring 8 out of 10 and the specimen remained crack and distortion free scoring 10 out of 10 as defined in ASTM D661, a test evaluation standard defined by the ANSI to determine the post-test condition of a nonmetallic test specimen. UltraPlas has successfully completed accelerated outdoor testing equal to 20 years of outdoor exposure of Southern California and Florida environmental conditions.
