Description
Symptom management is also called comfort care. It treats the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient while focusing on comfort and having the highest quality of life possible. The nurse case manager provides pain and symptom management. He or she is a registered nurse (RN) and may also be a certified hospice and palliative care specialist. Companionship and support is available through trained hospice volunteers. A volunteer coordinator on the hospice team will call the patient or the family to talk about how a volunteer might help.
