Description

Since 1901 the University of Portland has devoted itself to an education of the heart and mind by focusing on three central elements: teaching, faith, and service. Since the day it opened in September 1901 with 56 boys and 8 teacher-priests, the University has grown to a vibrant intellectual community of more than 2,900 students and 240 professors. Today the University is ranked among the top 10 schools in the West by U.S. News and World Report; boasts some of the finest teachers in the country, including the 2000 outstanding professor of the year according to the Carnegie Foundation; and prides itself on providing a traditional, values-centered education that is attune to the needs of every student. The University of Portland is Oregon's Catholic university and is affiliated with the Congregation of Holy Cross.
