Fairbanks Sewer & Water is the parent company for five closely held subsidiaries, two of which are privately held, publicly regulated water and wastewater utility companies in the greater Fairbanks, Alaska area. College Utilities Corporation and Golden Heart Utilities provide service to more than 8,500 combined customer accounts representing a population of over 55,000 people. Golden Heart Utilities and College Utilities Corporation are both supported administratively by Utility Services of Alaska, another Fairbanks Sewer & Water subsidiary.

Fairbanks is fortunate to have an abundant supply of fresh water. The Golden Heart Utilities Water Treatment Plant treats this water to provide high quality water to the greater Fairbanks community. Our plant produces nearly 1.3 billion gallons of water annually. In hot dry summer seasons such as we experienced in 2004, the water treatment plant treated 146.3 million gallons of water in the month of June alone.

Utility Services of Alaska provides a full range of customer service, accounting, information technology, human resources, procurement and risk management services to our operations. This staff of highly qualified professionals includes a senior management team that provides direction and oversight of all utility related activities.

The Golden Heart Utilities Water Distribution system is comprised of a series of water mains, pump and circulation stations, fire protection apparatus such as fire hydrants and valves to control flow of the water. The unique aspect of providing water service in an arctic environment is that it must be a circulating system with the water continually flowing inside the main to prevent freezing. A properly constructed water main and service connections to properties prevents the water from freezing even during the coldest portions of the winter months.
