About Valentis Valentis is a biotechnology company engaged in the development of innovative products for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a large and unsatisfied market. PAD is due to chronic inflammation of the blood vessels of the legs leading to the formation of plaque which obstructs blood flow. VLTS-934, the company’s lead product, is an anti-inflammatory drug in Phase II testing. The company’s second product for PAD is the Del-1 angiogenic protein, a product which causes the formation of new blood vessels.Lower-extremity PAD is a chronic disease resulting from atherosclerotic obstruction of major vessels supplying the legs. Intermittent claudication not only limits functional capacity and adversely affects quality of life but is also an ominous predictor of increased risk for myocardial infarction, stroke and cardiovascular death. Existing therapies often do not provide adequate treatment for many patients and commonly result in undesirable side effects. The market for a safe and efficacious product to treat intermittent claudication is well in excess of $1 billion.In addition to its internal product development efforts, Valentis has licensed its technologies to partners and they have included them in 10 therapeutic products they have in development to treat a variety of indications including infectious diseases and cancer.
