Although most Crayford focusers on the market today utilize VSI's [original] central pressure point design, we continue to stay ahead of the game by continually improving our products, as noted by the myriad of improvements to our focusers over the decades. VSI has always maintained only the basic Crayford concept. Everything else has been thrown out the astro-portal and redesigned from the ground up.
Yes. VSI does not use external job shops to manufacture their various products, like others do. Every VSI product is designed and manufactured in-house. VSI not only has a fully equipped digital machine shop, and can create any port ring/adapter you can conceive, but VSI also has over 40 years of experience in designing and manufacturing telescopes and accessories.
That reminds me of a cartoon I saw a few years ago. This guy is looking down the tube of a giant telescope at a star party. The illustrator drew what looked like a 20-incher at least. The caption read, "Hey, that primary mirror is only 3 inches!" In the cartoon, the telescope's owner is standing there with a smug expression on his face, saying nothing. Many stimulating conversations and friendships are begun at star parties will VSI stuff in (and out of) your tube assembly. Of course, if you've been to a lot of national star parties, you know that already.
We want to Thank You for your quick response, your "can do" attitude, and for working with us with a "non-standard" request. The basic strength and quality of your product made it possible for us to modify it for our test.
Many other focusers are either too coarse or too fine, or they offer both coarse and fine control knobs, but neither approaches that manual/visual "sweet spot" of focus control. What good is a focuser that has coarse and fine control when both actions are either too coarse one way, or too fine the other? VSI has always gone to extra [machining] effort to provide that special ratio that visual astronomers want - usually on the fast side of fine.
