Current Application Stories: When Prodigy Communications Corporation needed a system for processing paper rebate contracts, it turned to Vantage Technology of Norwalk, Connecticut. Having entered into rebate programs with major computer resellers that allowed consumers to get rebates on the cost of new computers by signing on for the company?s Internet service, Prodigy was faced with having to process a massive number of paper and digital contracts resulting from point-of-purchase sales along with a number of related issues, such as: Prodigy projected that it would take six months to process a maximum of 50,000 rebate contracts. The system created by Vantage Technology exceeded that number by the third week of the program, enabling the processing of 50,000 contracts per week. Vantage Technology's integrated process allowed for the capture of information contained on these individual, hand-written contracts and computer generated, digital contracts. Having created an electronic version of each paper contract, Prodigy is able to access the indexed images for a wide range of internal and external accounting activities, including: In addition, Vantage Technology has reconfigured the contract image search and retrieval process to an Internet application with a Web browser interface. This process, developed due to concerns about overloading MS Access, allows both Prodigy's internal departments and its business partners to access the rebate contracts directly through the Web.
