Vishay, founded in 1962 by Dr. Felix Zandman, began operations with foil resistors and strain gages as its initial product offerings. In 1985, Vishay began an ongoing series of strategic acquisitions to become a broad-line manufacturer of electronic components.

Types of capacitors manufactured by Vishay include tantalum (both solid and wet), ceramic (both multilayer chip and disk), film, power, heavy-current, and aluminum. Vishay is the number one manufacturer worldwide of wet and conformal-coated tantalum capacitors, as well as capacitors for power electronics. Vishay is also one of the largest manufacturers of molded tantalum surface-mount capacitors.

Vishay is a leading-edge manufacturer of thin film custom substrates using alumina, aluminum nitride, beryllium oxide, quartz, silicon, ferrites, titanates and a wide range of metallization alternatives such as nichrome, tantalum nitride, titanium tungsten, copper, nickel, gold and aluminum.
