Description

WCI Steel is an integrated flat-rolled steel producer based in Warren, Ohio, with an emphasis on custom carbon, alloy and electrical steel products. WCI offers approximately 185 grades of high-quality steel used by strip converters, steel service centers, electrical equipment manufacturers and the automotive and construction industries.WCI was formed as an independent steel company in 1988, but the plant's steelmaking heritage dates back to 1912, when the Trumbull Steel Company first began making steel on the site where WCI now stands.Since 1988, approximately $350 million has been targeted for investment in the plant to modernize facilities and enable WCI to produce more than 185 grades of high-quality steel. A key component of the capital investment was the installation of a continuous slab caster in 1991, which has dramatically reduced production costs and increased quality.
