A Brand-New Jazz Program on WRTI-FM! Get Ready to Swing on Sunday nights! Join us for Big Band Jazz with Bob Craig beginning on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 7 to 8 pm. Nestled comfortably between Riverwalk Jazz and The Historical Approach to the Positive Music on Sunday evenings on WRTI-FM, Bob Craig's new Big Band Jazz program features "everything from vintage classic swing to some exciting new things," explains Bob. You probably know something about the Big Band Era--this program highlights the evolution of Big Band Jazz, which started off with the heavy hitters including Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Stan Kenton. They opened the door for Claude Thornhill, Quincy Jones, and Thad Jones & Mel Lewis who took Big Band Jazz to exciting new places. You'll hear these names and many others on Sunday evenings. Bob will also showcase the soloists who became great bandleaders (Lionel Hampton, Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie), and the more contemporary big bands--such as the Resonance Big Band, Mike Barone's Big Band, and the MHCC Jazz Band--who have done so much for jazz in the past few years. Did we mention the big band singers? You'll hear them, as well as the leading instrumental soloists who often defined the sound of the entire band. Tune in every Sunday night!
