Description

As part of our efforts to serve both our Members and our communities more effectively, WSA is an active, integral member of an organization which serves to unite other similar associations. Through our participation in this umbrella group, we are able to stay abreast of legislation which might affect our membership, learn better ways to serve our Members through "networking", and tackle larger community service projects by combining the resources of many associations. Since 1886, the National Fraternal Congress of America headquartered in Naperville, Illinois, has been the voice of the fraternal insurance industry. Currently the NFCA represents over 10 million members of 65 member societies in the United States and Canada, making it one of the continent's largest volunteer networks. In 2008 NFCA member societies donated over $424 million and their members volunteered over 94 million hours of community service to our communities! The NFCA sponsors numerous charitable causes: • In April 1997, the NFCA made the following commitment: "By the year 2000, the National Fraternal Congress of America will mobilize its youth members to provide two million hours of voluntary service to their communities, plus invest an additional $10 million to leadership developement and life skills education for children, teens and young adults nationwide." -National Flag Day Foundation. Working in conjunction with individual State Fraternal Congresses, the NFCA promotes June 14th as "Flag Day", and encourages the "Pause for the Pledge" at 7 p.m. EST. - Habitat for Humanity . "Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with God's people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow into all that God intended." Since 1990, the NFCA, its membership, and affiliated state fraternal congresses have been involved in 2318 projects, contributing more than $10 million. The NFCA has conducted blitz-builds and park construction in Habitat neighborhoods across America. "To transform the spirit of the poor in the Adams-Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., by improving the conditions of their lives. Jubilee is not primarily charity. It is an investment in restoring wholeness to people with broken lives. Its varied programs encompass broad areas that affect the quality of life: housing, healthcare, employment and education. All programs encourage self-development and promote self-confidence." Because of its partnership with Jubilee Ministries and interest in improving the image of our nation's capital, the NFCA has donated over $500,000 to help the Adams-Morgan community. The NFCA also serves its membership through several unique and innovative programs: " is a coveted honor awarded to one individual each year who exemplifies the spirit of fraternalism. -Know How Index -Serving as a governing body for 31 State (or Regional) Fraternal Congresses
