Description
Waas Boring & Cable is a family owned business which was established April 1, 1969 by Stan Waas. Today his wife Pat and their three sons, Randy, Brian, and Jeff join Stan in the operation of the business. We have been operating out of Knowles, Wisconsin for over 35 years. In 1969 when Waas Boring & Cable opened its doors for business it was a one-room office. Since then we have expanded to five offices and a conference room with the latest addition taking place in 1998 which included an atrium being added to the front of the building. When Waas Boring & Cable started in business in 1969 the original shop was 1200 sq. feet. Today the shop is a total of 7,000 sq. feet. A new shop addition was added in 1997 along Hwy AY bringing the total shop footage up to 21,700 sq. feet. We have a crew of three full time mechanics on duty to handle repairing and maintaining all of our equipment. Waas Boring & Cable original contracts were with Wisconsin Bell, Incorporated (Ameritech) (SBC) and GTE (VERIZON). We have worked for SBC continuously since we started in business 30 years ago. We have grown from only 3 employees to over 50 employees. Of the three original employees, Ed Eilbes retired from Waas Boring & Cable after 25 years of service. The other two remaining original employees Floyd Schraufnagel and Norm Ruhland are still working with us. Currently, we have 12 crews that work with fiber optics and copper cable, as wells as, rodding and blowing of fiber. We have been working with fiber optics for over 11 years. We also have four directional boring rigs with from 10,000 to 80,000 pull back. Waas Boring has diversified itself over the last 15 years. The first 15 years our work consisted of plowing, trenching and conventional boring to place telephone, CATV, and power cables. Over the last 15 years utility companies have been down sizing their work forces, which in turn created more job opportunities for us as a contractor. We have adapted to these changes by purchasing equipment and training personnel to do aerial, underground, directional boring and splicing. Thus increasing our capabilities to include these areas. Our business also includes doing snow removal for Ameritech and local customers, as well as, excavating and ditching for local customers. In the years to come Waas Boring will continue to adapt to the ever-changing environment of the utility business. We look forward to providing the prompt quality work that we having been providing the utility companies and local community for OVER 35 years.
