Description

Bilbao is the economic and cultural capital of the Basque Country, as well as all of northern Spain. This fact is aptly reflected by the residents’ running joke that Bilbao is, in fact, the “la capital mundial” (the capital of the world). Bilbao is a city in constant redefinition. Starting in the early 90’s, the area has transformed itself from an industrial, shipbuilding center to a vibrant and cosmopolitan city. Today, Bilbao is recognized as a hub for the new, the fashionable, and the experimental. Students spend a day here touring the scenic river-walk and charming old town. They will learn about the city’s history and its many architectural styles. We will also visit the world-famous Guggenheim museum, an international symbol of dynamism and technology.

Partnering with schools, families, professional organizations, or groups of motivated friends or colleagues, Walking Tree is excited to offer customized travel itineraries to a variety of destinations around the world. Seeking to provide our participants with a unique, adventurous, and safe experience abroad, our Custom Program Director will work closely with a group sponsor to design every aspect of your travel. We will work hard to tailor the itinerary to your pursuits and interests. Consistent with our dedication to community service, Walking Tree encourages groups to spend a portion of their program in one of our many host communities, dedicating time to homestays and service work.

Morrison is an obsessive and experienced traveler, having been to over 40 countries in pursuit of the life-changing experiences offered by the wild places of the world. Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and broken French, he is an avid wildlife photographer whose favorite subjects are beetles, spiders, and the oft overlooked microcosms they inhabit. Morrison is a percussionist at heart and has performed nationally and internationally with groups ranging in style from symphonic to experimental rock and traditional Turkish music. During his undergraduate years, Morrison conducted research in Brazil and Madagascar with conservation organizations that are actively working with communities to strike a sustainable balance between humans and the ecosystems that support them. Education is surely the most rewarding aspect of his work; Morrison constantly strives to inspire positive change by communicating his overwhelming awe of the natural world to others. Morrison hopes to build a career in biodiversity conservation and is currently working to develop a community-based sea turtle conservation project in an indigenous region of Panama.
