Motivated by significant changes in the healthcare marketplace, a group of radiologists met in the summer of 1993 to create a new way of delivering diagnostic imaging services. They recognized the need for statewide access and consistently high quality services. They saw the opportunity for cost savings through streamlined management and volume discounts from suppliers. And, they realized the value they could deliver to customers. From these discussions, Washington Managed Imaging emerged. In December 1993, WMI incorporated and a new concept in managed imaging care was created in our state. Our network brings together groups of highly skilled radiologists to serve every diagnostic imaging need. WMI is fully established, staffed and ready to serve the needs of payors, employers and patients statewide. WMI - Value through shared technology management. Number of member groups: 11 Geographic access: Statewide Number of member physicians: 190 (approx.) Board certified: 100% Services provided: CT; MRI; MRA; nuclear medicine; ultrasound (including OB ultrasound); mammography; fluoroscopy; angiography/ interventional; bone densitometry; and orthopedic, neurological, musculoskeletal, pediatric, dental, OB/GYN, head and neck, chest, cardiovascular, body, oncology, vascular, cross-sectional imaging, PET, CTA and cardiac CTA. Quality standards: WMI-developed, based on American College of Radiology and other imaging specialty professional organizations. Utilization management: Centralized database for utilization analysis. Utilization controls: Standardized imaging guidelines and retrospective review. Patient satisfaction: Surveyed regularly by member groups; included in outcome data.
