Description
GENERAL PRACTICE In addition to our areas of primary practice—Immigration/Naturalization and Appellate Litigation—Weiss & Kahn’s attorneys are experienced in the following areas: Family Law We handle matters ranging from premarital agreements to complex divorce and custody controversies. Most cases center on dissolution of marriage, including the valuation and equitable distribution of assets and liabilities. Many cases also involve custody, alimony, child support, and visitation. Paternity, domestic violence, and relocation of residency out of state can also be central issues. And questions of enforcement of judgments, and award of attorneys fees and costs associated with the litigation, arise frequently. Family law also covers cohabitation agreements for non-married couples, adoptions, name changes, and complex questions of jurisdiction when parents and children move between states. Disputes frequently arise after a divorce has become final, often years later. Here parties usually seek to modify a final judgment on the ground of substantial change of circumstances since judgment was entered. Given the firm’s expertise in immigration law, we are particularly well equipped to deal with international adoptions, and the complex U.S. immigration regulations that govern them. International Law We advise and represent clients in many areas of international practice, including contracts, business creation, and immigration. Dr. Kahn regularly teaches International Law in the University of Miami’s Department of International Studies. Administrative Law Our experience dealing with the baffling bureaucracy enveloping immigration to the United States makes other administrative agencies—federal, state or local—look intelligible, and almost friendly. We have successfully represented clients before a variety of local, state and federal agencies regarding regulatory compliance, enforcement actions and administrative proceedings. Professional Licensing and Discipline We advise and represent clients having trouble obtaining or retaining a professional license; and those facing discipline from professional regulatory bodies. Commercial Litigation Our practice includes contract claims, debt collection matters, and landlord-tenant disputes.
