In 1974, she moved to the independent agency side of the business, and has since concentrated her career in commercial lines and benefits. In 1991, Tena co-founded Northcreek Insurance Services located in Woodinville, WA. In 1996, she moved to Spokane to help co-found Wheat & Associates with her husband, Dave. Tena is actively involved in the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals, and is the "go-to" agent for both business and health insurance for the green industry state-wide. She is currently the acting President of the Spokane County Independent Agents and Brokers Association for 2008/2009.
