W+A DC recently welcomed Valerie Hassett and Jennifer Johnson to the W+A family. Valerie Hassett, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP BD+C came to W+A with over 20 years of experience as an architect and interior designer. She has an extensive understanding of a wide variety of building types, including master site planning, offices, educational facilities, hotels, restaurants, churches, and multifamily residential. She has overseen architectural design work for multiple projects at once with a wide range of building typologies.

Every project is unique. We shed preconceived notions and styles, and we focus intently on the unique and specific needs of your project. Our design process involves a thirst for listening so that we can holistically understand your desires the project's needs, and the impact it will have on the community. This allows our solutions to be catered specifically for you.

Our arts facilities and public libraries serve to provide learning centers, recreational spaces and safe havens for the youth. And our residential community centers provide a common gathering space to bring residents together and to foster a sense of community. These types of projects are important to our mission as they further reinforce the Wiencek commitment creating and strengthening communities.

The Arundel Community Development Services and Bates School Limited Partnership will begin construction this month on a broad energy retrofit program for Wiley Bates Senior Apartments in Annapolis, MD. Wiencek + Associates originally renovated the school into an award winning adaptive reuse project in 2004-2005 and was glad to provide design services for a new sustainable energy retrofit. In just 6 months, an energy audit by Avalon Energy Services, architectural design, bidding and negotiations and construction will be complete; improving efficiency about 20%.
