Acknowledgements for Photography John Lyons WDNR/UW Many people helped me collect and photograph the fishes portrayed in this website. Their direct aid in the field, generosity of time and information, and general enthusiasm for what I was attempting is what made this project a success. I ’m extremely grateful to everyone involved. Two people deserve to be singled out. Dr. Phil Cochran, formerly a professor at St. Norbert College in DePere, WI, and now a professor at St. Marys University, Winona, MN, has been my longest and closest collaborator, and he has been involved in countless fish collecting expeditions and associated hi-jinks with me. His encyclopedic knowledge of natural history in general and fishes in particular, his unfaltering support and interest, and his eclectic musical tastes helped get the whole project off the ground and kept me going at several points when the effort seemed overwhelming. Dr. Kyle Piller, originally a Ph.D. student at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, then a post-doc with me through the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and now a continuing collaborator as a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA, was my main sampling and photography companion during the majority of the work. His intelligence enlivened many a long drive, and his detailed knowledge of fish distribution, habitats, and sampling techniques was essential to the project. His talents as a “hand model ” are evident throughout the website.
