Description
In Wisconsin, emergency physicians have taken the initiative to develop data systems that can rapidly obtain access to emergency department patients' past medical data. The ED Linking Project addresses the critical need for instant access to reliable patient information as a tool to improve both the efficiency and quality of health care. Emergency clinicians are often faced with extremely medically-needy patients and lack past medical history information, limiting their abilities to provide optimal care. The ED Linking Project will aid in alleviating these problems by enabling emergency care providers to avoid redundant diagnostic testing, limit medical errors, and save costs while enhancing quality of care.
Wisconsin ACEP will continue to offer our job shadowing program to provide state legislators and other government officials with an opportunity to experience firsthand the issues emergency physicians face on a daily basis. Emergency physicians throughout Wisconsin will be asked to volunteer to host a legislator, and during each visit, the legislator will observe the triage process, potentially overcrowded waiting rooms, and the role of the emergency department as the state universal health safety net. This important project will serve as a first step for emergency physicians and legislators to develop and maintain working relationships with each other. If you are interested in hosting a legislator at your emergency department, contact Rich Paul in the Wisconsin ACEP chapter office: 800/838-3627 or by email: Rich@RichardPaulAssociates.com.
