"More Than A Taste Of Calhoun" April 24, 2010 Calhoun's favorite radio station WJTH AM-900/ FM 101.7 will be broadcasting the event. The menu of activities and attractions for the 5th Annual "More Than a Taste of Calhoun", continues to expand as chow-down date Saturday, April 24th approaches. From 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., visitors can expect to see their favorite food vendors, crafters, storytellers, musicians and entertainers from years past. But this year, there will be some new faces in the crowd. New to this year's festival is the Sticks and Stones Bike Ride sponsored by the Calhoun Cycling Club. In front of the Calhoun-Gordon County Library on Park Avenue, Rock Bridge Community Church will fill the street with FREE Bouncee Jumpers.Folks in the mood for a little friendly competition can roll up their sleeves and participate in a Nathan's hot dog eating contest sponsored by Diggity Dawgs. How many dogs can you put away? Come hungry and increase your chances of walking away a winner! On the Court Street stage the Infinity Show Band and Calhoun's Got Talent winners Tiffany Trammel, April Wehunt, Heather Weller and Savannah Daniel will be appearing at different times during the day. Registration continues as food vendors and artists and crafters are still calling to reserve booth space. The cost is only $25.00. Food vendor booths are still available at a cost of $50.00, and vendors keep all the proceeds from their sales. Advertising for 2010 has been accelerated in an effort to draw even larger crowds this year.All in all, it promises to be a fun-filled, family-oriented day brought to the community by Mohawk Industries in partnership with other organizations and companies. There'll be great food, antique tractor rides, pony rides and a petting farm. The day will begin with a parade of school children from across the county.The Cherokee Promenadors will be kicking up their heels and, as always, music will be playing through the day from stages set up on Court Street and on the String Band Stage in front of the Harris Arts Center. Appearing at the HAC will be the New Coosa Valley Boys, the Brad Frazier Band, The Groundhogs, and The New Binkley Brothers. In addition, there will be a banjo/violin contest in the middle of the day, and concluding the day will be the String Band Competition.
