In 1920, after fielding many inquiries as to where to replace their worn out trunks, Walter opened the doors of the first Kaehler Lock and Trunk store.After W.W.II Walter retired and his son Wallace took over the business. Wallace expanded the business by adding gifts, handbags, and business accessories; while doubling the size of property and business. "Kaehler Lock and Trunk" became "Kaehler Luggage, Leathergoods, and Gifts", Quickly developing a strong customer service reputation all along the North Shore of Chicago.
