Yield Dynamics Company Overview Yield Dynamics is the leading provider of enterprise yield management and advanced process control software for semiconductor and flat panel display (FPD) manufacturers, as well as fabless chip design companies. The company's extensible software platform enables customers to quickly identify and correct semiconductor and FPD production failures, achieving faster product ramps and higher yields. What is Yield? Chips are small pieces of semiconducting material (usually silicon) on which integrated circuits are embedded. A typical chip is less than ¼-square inches and can contain millions of electronic components (transistors). These semiconducting materials -- materials which are neither good conductors of electricity nor good insulators -- are the basic material of various electronic devices used in telecommunications, computer technology, control systems, and other applications.Chips are made in multi-billion dollar production facilities called fabs. The goal of a fab is to create a large number of high-quality chips according to a given specification called the design. Large fabs contain hundreds of automated and very expensive tools that work in a specific order, over a period of weeks or even months, to turn silicon wafers (each consisting of hundreds to potentially thousands of chips) into functioning products. The operations that the tools undertake to perform this process is called the manufacturing "recipe."
