AirChips Communications LLC continues the mission of research, education, and consulting on telecommunications networks that was begun in 1994 by Kenneth M. Chipps Ph.D. for the purpose of advancing knowledge in the field. Over the years this purpose has encompassed a variety of areas centered on data networks of various types. These areas currently include all aspects of wired data networks, wireless signal propagation, free space optics, and methods to provide high-speed Internet access to underserved areas. As part of this effort occasional research reports are published. These reports carry a nominal fee for access in order to offset the cost of the continuing research agenda. Both to provide insight into real world problems, as well as to provide additional funding for research and education, facilities use and consulting services are available as well by clicking on the Facilities and Consulting links on the navigation bar just above.
The research performed by the staff and students associated with AirChips Communication has touched on a number of areas since its inception. Current projects in the research phase include: Measuring the impact of semi-tropical foliage on the signal penetration ability of common unlicensed bands. A study of the load surveillance device traffic, such as analog and IP cameras, places on a data network. In conjunction with Regent Seven Seas Cruise Lines a study of the ability of geostationary satellites to provide stable, high-speed Internet access to ships at sea. Also in conjunction with Regent Seven Seas Cruise Lines a study of the propagation characteristics of common unlicensed frequencies on board ship. In concert with local wireless Internet service providers an ongoing study of the problems inherent to and the solutions required to provide high-speed Internet access to underserved areas, such as rural areas.
