Over the course of managing practices across various specialties, digiChart found itself delivering more and more information technology services to its physicians and began to recognize the full power of specialty-specific technology, particularly the electronic medical record (EMR). In 1999, digiChart transitioned to become an EMR company solely focused on specialty-specific applications.Our experience and extensive research and development efforts demonstrated that practical, relevant technology must address a specialty’s unique characteristics. Each medical specialty maintains a distinctive clinical workflow, and “one size fits all” technology has failed to meet the requirements and expectations of conscientious clinicians. With this knowledge, digiChart pioneered the specialty-specific EMR in obstetrics and gynecology. The result is digiChart OB-GYN™.Working with over 140 obstetrician-gynecologists, digiChart meticulously detailed the workflow of a typical OB-GYN practice and designed an easy-to-use EMR which follows accepted OB-GYN standards and procedures. Upon securing a relationship with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), digiChart became and remains the only company licensed to incorporate the full ACOG Antepartum Record and Flowsheet directly into an EMR.
