Throughout the valley there are numerous Museums and other area attractions. The 75-mile long Silver Thread Scenic Byway provides countless photographic opportunities, including some of Colorado's best preserved ghost towns, waterfalls, unique and unusual rock formations, massive earthflows and scenic vistas. Thunder Valley Speedway : Racing season runs from May to September, and races are held every Friday and Saturday night with an average of 40 - 50 cars in each race on this high altitude track. Racing classes are also available. UFO Watchtower : Unidentified sights in the San Luis Valley night sky have been seen from this 10 foot high watchtower. Fort Garland : This historic site offers a look at the lives of those who defended the settlers nearly 150 years ago. The fort was used in the Civil War and then as a base against attacks by Indians. A fire destroyed the church on Ash Wednesday in 1926, and a new church was build and dedicated on Dec. 12, 1927. Stations of the Cross Shrine: The Stations of the Cross represents the stages of Jesus's crucifixion depicted in a series of bronze sculptures by Huberto Maestas along a trail leading to the exquisit All Saints Chapel at the top of the San Pedro Mesa.
