The PMA team can assist members with preparing in advance for potential food safety crises by providing guidance documents and advice on the nuts and bolts of product recall and traceback. On those occasions when members become involved in a regulatory-driven recall, the PMA can leverage their years of experience in these situations to help members understand complex testing data, connect them to appropriate state and federal regulatory personnel, identify resources to address specific technical, legal or public relations issues and provide support as you emerge from the crisis situation.

PMA’s Gold Circle campaign funds critical programs and initiatives that promote global food safety while strengthening consumer confidence in fresh produce. The program is funded by PMA members who make a $1,000 annual contribution. With 100% of every donation going directly to food safety research, outreach, and education, we have the ability to influence the future of our industry. Gold Circle Members are among an elite group of industry leaders who are dedicated to assuring a safe and healthy produce experience.

Food safety is one of the chief concerns of all who work in the produce industry. Nearly all operators have a food safety program and those that do not will almost certainly have to develop one as it is expected that the FDA’s Produce Food Safety Rule will require written food safety programs from producers. With all of the food safety requirements coming from regulatory bodies, buyers, consumers, advocacy groups and others, it may be appropriate to call a time out to reconsider what the basic building blocks of a robust food safety program should be.

Peru is the world’s sixth largest producer of coffee and exports more than 90% of its production. Other than coffee, farm exports include asparagus, table grapes, mangoes, avocados, prepared artichokes, paprika and evaporated milk.
