Description

My name is Ren Bucholz and I currently live in Toronto, Ontario. I'm a law student at Osgoode Hall and a Masters student in the Communications & Culture programme at York University. That happens to be where Laura , my lovely wife, is a professor. Before going back to school in 2007, I worked on international policy for the Electronic Frontier Foundation . I got my hands dirty in a lot of different things, but I focused on international copyright policy and activism at the United Nations , and the standardization of technology at a few different places . EFF was an amazingly exciting, fun place to work. In 2004, I helped start a political action committee called IPac . IPac works on the electoral side of IP, which means that we direct money towards candidates who support balanced information policy. I also co-founded CopyNight , a monthly social night for people interested in copyright and technology. You may have noticed that I blog(ged) about lots of things that could loosely be called "design." I have a longstanding interest in that world, and I've been a professional designer -- in the sense that I take money from clients for work -- on-and-off for the last decade. One of the things I like about the work listed above is that I get to use those skills. My stuff has appeared in Rolling Stone, Spin, Make, and miscellaneous corners of the web. I'm planning to put my portfolio online when I find the time. In a former life I managed a noncommercial radio station and worked for one of the first Internet broadcasters . I also majored in journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I graduated with honors.
