Description
We have treated thousands of clients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other psychological issues using our unique, non-drug, multimodal approach. Our multidimensional treatment, featuring neurofeedback as the cornerstone, also integrates other services including: counseling, Interactive Metronome ®, school meetings and consultation, behavioral coaching, parent support groups and relaxation/anxiety management. We also work closely with several local psychiatrists for psychopharmacological consultation. We have had 30 years of experience in helping children and adults in the Tri-State area who suffer from ADHD, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anxiety and Depression. Members of our staff are Board certified in Neurofeedback. Additionally, we have many certified counselors/therapists to assist in Biofeedback and Interactive Metronome ®.
Attention Deficit Specialists provide a comprehensive psychological evaluation to get at the root of the problem. Rather than relying exclusively on medication, we provide alternative non?drug approaches that boost self?esteem and teach individuals to control symptoms on their own. In addition to Neurofeedback and Interactive Metronome ® , Attention Deficit Specialists offer a treatment approach that includes psychoeducational evaluation, parent training in effective discipline, cognitive behavioral therapy, family counseling, anxiety reduction training and school advocacy.
Dr. Ken Blum, in his book Overload, explains that persons with ADD/ADHD are born with a genetic predisposition to these behaviors, inheriting the potential to develop these problems just as one might inherit the potential to develop heart disease or diabetes. However, in order to develop ADD/ADHD, he adds, one must not only have this genetic predisposition, but must also be exposed to a negative and highly stressful environment. Other experts who study ADD/ADHD believe that the behavioral problems stem from improper diet, trauma to the brain incurred in-utero or during the birthing process, or environmental poisons, such as lead, ingested by the child as he or she develops.
