This is a classic publication!" A New Testament View of Women contains a detailed exegesis of all of the New Testament passages that deal specifically with the role of women. In many cases I translated the Greek myself for a clearer understanding. The content has been carefully researched from commentaries, as well as historical sources. I have related the Scriptures to the social structure of the New Testament era, especially the Apostle Paul's "problem" passages, in which he seems to place drastic limitations on the freedom of women. My goal was to present a solid biblical view, based on valid exegetical methods that are accepted and practiced by evangelicals. While scholarly in content, the book is written in a popular, non-academic style. INTRODUCTION: A Personal Journey This introduction recounts the dramatic experience that led to my decision to enroll in the school of theology in the seminary when few women were doing that. It also tells why I wrote the book. PART I INTRODUCTION: Jesus ’ View of Women CHAPTER 1: Women in the Kingdom Chapter includes discussion of passages that illustrate ways Jesus laid the foundation for the active involvement of women in the work of His kingdom. He emphasized this involvement by accepting women as serious disciples, emphasizing their partnership role, and identifying them as leaders in the kingdom. Sections: 1. Women As Leaders (Luke 13:18-20, 15:4-10). 2. Women As Disciples (Luke 10:38-42) 3. Women As Partners (Gen. 1:27-28, 2:24; Matt. 19:3-6) CHAPTER 2: Women in Jesus' Earthly Ministry Traces involvement of women in Jesus' earthly ministry and how this involvement provided a model for the involvement of women in the work of the early church. Women and Proclamation (John 4:7-42; Luke 23:55 to 24:11) PART II: The Apostles ’ View of Women CHAPTER 3: Women in the New Testament Home Presents the mutual-submission concept of husband and wife as an outgrowth of the mutual submission Paul called for on the part of all Christians. As such, both husband and wife have responsibilities as equals in Christ (Gal. 3:28). Sections: 1. A Call for Mutual Submission (Eph. 5:21) 2. Responsibility of Husbands (Eph. 5:25-33) 3. Responsibility of Wives (Eph. 5:22-24; 33) 4. A Final Reminder About Mutual Submission CHAPTER 4: Women in the New Testament Church Traces leadership involvement of women in the New Testament church. Beginning with the prayer meetings immediately following Jesus' ascension and the empowerment by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, women were actively involved in the ministry of the church.
