Description
Welcome to the Bark Eater Inn, an original stagecoach stopover for guests traveling from the Lake Champlain Region to Lake Placid. One definition of the word Adirondack is translated as “they who eat trees,” or “bark-eaters.” It was a derisive term applied by the Mohawk to their northern neighbors, the Algonquin. It was proposed in the 1830s as the name for these northern mountains in the report of the states first official geological survey; typical of the way white-man adopted Indian names, whether or not they were indigenous. In our 150-year-farmhouse, you will find three spacious common rooms and one large fireplace in our living room for your enjoyment. We have seven bedrooms in the main Inn, with shared baths. Our décor and atmosphere is very inviting and comfortable.
