The California School-Age Consortium (CalSAC) provides training and advocacy for after school professionals throughout California. To further our mission of advancing high-quality, low cost after school programs for all children, we provide training and support to the organizations and professionals who dedicate themselves to keeping children safe and engaged in their after school hours. Why after school programs? The after school hours are a vulnerable time for young people. Without quality supervision, studies show that children are more likely to engage in high-risk behaviors, such as experimenting with drugs and alcohol, and to be victims of crime. With roughly half of California's children living in working families, the need for quality supervision is paramount.
