Join us in the Matthias Room as we study Jesus' parable to encourage finding ourselves. Pastor Holtan facilitates the study. GIFTS AND MINISTRIES COORDINATOR The purpose is to work with Calvary members to grow in Christ by using their spiritual gifts and becoming involved in the ministries of Calvary and the community. This is a part-time professional staff position for 14 hours/week which reports to the pastor. The responsibilities are to: [1] Match the spiritual gifts & needs of Calvary’s members with its ministries (in cooperation with the Stewardship Committee); [2] Integrate new members into the ministries of Calvary (along with the Evangelism committee); [3] Assist with filling immediate needs for volunteers at Calvary, as time permits, and as the long term goals allow. JUBILEE EVENT RESCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 7 We celebrate the 50th Anniversary Jubilee of Calvary’s official recognition as an ALC-ELCA congregation and our connection to the global church with guests, ethnic potluck at noon, and a special offering. We thank Bishop Wohlrabe of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA for joining us in our celebration. He will preach and leading an adult forum as well. Also as part of our celebration of Calvary and the larger church, we also highlight the work that our Calvary members have done in the mission field: Luthard and Vera Eid (Hong Kong), Gus and Betty Ziegler (Senegal, Africa) and Karen Hasskamp (Liberia) spent years doing mission work. We also have a number of our members who are involved in shorter term projects or made mission trips, like Rand and Becky Stolee in Guatemala, our Common Hope groups in Guatemala, and Mission Jamaica. We also sponsor a missionary family in Japan, Pastor James and Carol Sack. He is a counselor at Japan Lutheran College and Seminary and she is a harpist, music therapist and organizer of “Pastoral Harpists.” Take a look and ask them questions, too. MUSIC FEST Sunday, January 31 at 3 p.m., join us for the Community Music Fest at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham. Each congregation will supply a musical group. TWIGS NEEDS Fuel Oil Assistance is needed by a couple who have experienced health issues and unemployment recently. They are now working but had fallen behind on bills. $189.75. MONDAY MORNING WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY Java Jams Bible study meets Mondays at 8:30 a.m. in the Mary Room. This is an informal study and we welcome anyone to join at any time. Questions? SATURDAY MORNING WOMEN'S STUDY The Saturday women's Bible study meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Matthias Room. We will meet from January to Lent. It is called "Jesus, the One and Only," a Beth Moore study of the life of Jesus, based on the book of Luke. It is a study combined with video series taped on location in Jerusalem and throughout Israel. Come get to know Jesus as if you had walked with Him during his earthly days of ministry. YOUTH AND FAMILY SKI TRIP Trip to Andes Tower Hills near Alexandria Sunday, January 31. We leave Calvary at 12:30 p.m., return at 7:30 p.m. Cost includes transportation and lift ticket and will be $30-$50. It is a 90 minute drive to Andes, we arrive about 2:00 p.m. and leave at 6:00 p.m. We’ll take an Anderson school bus so are limited to the first 40 people to get money to the church office. All students, families, and friends welcome. LUTEFISK: FISH THE WAY COD INTENDED First English Lutheran in Menahga is serving a lutefisk and meatball dinner Saturday, January 23 from 4-7 p.m. Advance ticket cost is $12 adults, $5 ages 6-12, and kids under 6 free. At the door tickets are $13 adults and $6 for children. Save a buck and buy your tickets in advance. Get tickets from any First English member or at the door.
