Description
We're a subsidiary of the global Capespan Group, with its headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. With about 100 employees, our other offices are located in Hamburg, Paris, Vienna, and Zurich. Operating with our service providers from state-of-the-art warehousing and logistical facilities at maritime and hinterland terminals across Europe, every step of the operating process is computer-controlled. Special refrigerated cold stores have a 50 000-pallet capacity for direct deliveries throughout Europe. Our logistics partners take care of forwarding and customs clearing, plus processing requirements such as netting and bagging of fruit. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT To exceed expectations from the increasingly diversified European consumers, we continue strengthening our position by developing new commercial varieties and devise innovative ideas on packaging and fresh fruit distribution. Therefore, comprehensive product development programmes involve both producer and international business partners. These programmes are already improving the range of sought-after varieties and exciting new cultivars. GLOBAL PROCUREMENT New origins are continuously being integrated into Capespan’s portfolio.
Essentially, it's about providing the best service in delivering quality fruit from the orchard to our customers, reducing supply chain costs and securing the shortest route to the market to optimise fruit value. Underscoring our service to producers is our wealth of market experience. This includes: interpreting customer demands, transferring demands into packing specifications, ensuring fruit quality, as well as assisting on accreditations, certifications and auditing of pack houses and farms. In addition, we have a self-audit system for environmental issues, as well as safety and health specifications. Thanks to our state-of-the-art IT systems, producers can enjoy the advantage of an integrated reporting programme with full supply chain visibility via a B2B web portal, ongoing feedback and tracking the fruit through the chain. When considering risks, rest assured that Capespan South Africa has fully integrated risk management across all our business units to protect our producers against financial hardship. Apart from our good corporate governance, we have the expertise to identify, evaluate, control and finance the risk, plus flexible payment options to suit individual needs.
We source and supply a comprehensive fresh fruit and salad range from around the world - 365 days a year. Providing wide-ranging market access to our suppliers, our customers are the UK supermarket, catering, processing, food service and wholesale sectors. We ensure that they receive access to the best of the world’s grower community. Our business is divided into Retail Salads, Retail Fruit and Non-retail sales. RETAIL SALAD Sourced from the UK, EU and North Africa, we offer our customers a 12-month availability of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. RETAIL FRUIT Supplying customer programmes directly, we provide a diverse range of products from grapes and citrus to apples, pears and stone fruit. However, we also deploy our grower base, infrastructure and expertise to facilitate alternative supply models for UK retailers. NON-RETAIL We offer a full basket of quality fruit to wholesale, catering and processing customers across the UK. Our global supplier base gives our customers the best-in-season every season, with daily nationwide deliveries plus the top brands Cape, Outspan and Capespan Gold.
Servicing our retail grocery chain and wholesale clients from coast to coast in the USA and Canada, we ensure that they receive only the best quality fruit on time and that their programmes are fulfilled. As a member of the global Capespan Group, our procurement strategy is to source top quality fruit from leading producers throughout the world. We're able to provide clients with up-to-date information on supply conditions worldwide and keep our suppliers informed about competitive market conditions globally. From our offices in Montreal, Philadelphia and Bakersfield, Capespan North America’s sales team is there to service customers - going the extra mile to ensure that expectations are not only met, but exceeded. Fruit is imported through the ports of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Port Elizabeth, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; Montreal, Canada; and Vancouver, Canada, and is transported from there to cold storage warehouses or directly to customers.
Customers are the strategic focus of our business and we have undertaken a review in 2011 to ensure that our business strategy is aligned to increase customer focus. Thus we're ensuring that our commitment to customer satisfaction is a key market differentiator. Understanding customer needs is critical to providing the right products, services, quality and ensuring that our value proposition and delivery are in line with their expectation for the provision of ethical products and services in terms of safety, quality, product traceability, grading, consistency, reliability, competitive prices, supply continuity, product information and compliance with the various environmental and food safety standards. Capespan ensures appropriate response to customers' expectations by maintaining close personal relationships with major customers through normal business structures and customer publications. We also ensure that our business operations are conducted with integrity and that we are in compliance with laws and relevant regulatory protocols where relevant.
