Description
Our membership consists of 40 community-based organizations, comprised of more than 26 different ethnic groups in the Chicago area. These organizations provide a broad range of assistance to older persons who are not fluent in English. Since the welfare reform legislation of August 22, 1996, much of our focus has been on assisting elderly to become citizens - which means, for most, learning enough English to pass the citizenship exam. For the past five years, we have been coordinating the citizenship and ESL activities of 16 different ethnic agencies.
