The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 deregulated shipping, causing an influx of interstate carriers and an increase in freight rate discounting. This not only made the trucking industry extremely competitive, it also made shipping much more confusing. In an effort to help shippers take advantage of the deregulated environment without having to deal with the confusion, CDS was formed in 1987 by Greg Bennink who previously had been working in sales for Consolidated Freightways. CDS was one of the first transportation brokers to not only provide truckload, but also LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) services , which now makes up about 70% of the shipments handled by our company.
