Fourth generation owners Brian and Bruce Buchanan represent a family business that has been serving Indianapolis-area families for over 130 years. In 1881, Frank W. Flanner became Indiana’s first licensed embalmer and opened a mortuary in downtown Indianapolis. Charles J. Buchanan joined his brother-in-law in 1887, forming the modern partnership. Flanner and Buchanan proudly serves all faiths, races, and income levels, offering a full spectrum of tributes from tradition funerals to cremation memorial services, and now green burial options.

Precoa’s custom insurance product has been designed to benefit both our partner funeral homes and the families they serve. Our policies are backed by the nation’s biggest preneed provider – National Guardian Life (NGL). Founded in 1910, NGL has maintained an A.M. Best “A- (Excellent)” rating since 1963. Precoa and NGL have contractually agreed to a growth management philosophy that will protect families and funeral homes forever.
