CWTC was founded in 1960 by a group of parents wanting to provide their adult age children job skills training and continuing educational opportunities. At that time, there were no services offered for adults with disabilities. Our organization started with 13 consumers and one staff member and now serves an average 650 individuals on an annual basis throughout central Illinois with a staff of 200.

Jim “Jimbo” was involved with CWTC residential and vocational services for over 25 years. He participated in Special Olympics track and field for many years, once winning a bronze medal at the Illinois State Olympics. When Jim lived at Stuttle CLF he was a regular at the Hardees nearby, where he enjoyed coffee and visiting with the help every evening. In his later years, after he had moved to Rochelle CLF, Jim could usually be found outside enjoying the weather, smoking his pipe with cherry tobacco, and visiting with other residents and staff.

CWTC shared in the March Madness experience by being part of the 7th Annual Special Needs Information Fair at the Peoria Civic Center Tuesday night, March 12th. The fair featured organizations in the state of Illinois and many from Central Illinois, providing information on their services to caregivers, families and educators of individuals with special needs.

There are a wide variety of ways you can get involved with one of the great events held by CWTC. Our events are such a success because the entire Central Illinois community gets involved, whether it’s becoming an event sponsor, providing products or services, donating silent auction items or volunteering their time.
